Vince Cable considers global skills for business

Tuesday October 18 2011

Baroness Jolly hosted and chaired a  House of Lord roundtable this week attended by schools, businesses, exam boards and the Secretary of State for Business and Skills.

Dr Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business and Skills, joined the session, which was sponsored by the British Council and run by Think Global. Dr Cable considered questions including:

  • How can students prepare for the global marketplace?
  • Are global skills are in growing demand with employers? What do these look like?
  • What challenges and opportunities exist for bringing the needs of schools, students and business together?

Tom Franklin, Think Global’s Incoming CEO, introduced and framed the event, introducing a range of questions, while Professor Jo Beall, Director of Education and Society at the British Council summed up the wide range of views on how we help students respond in an ever more globalised workplace.
