Live Below the Line 2012

Shadow Education Secretary, Stephen Twigg, and Baroness Jolly, a former teacher, will  survive on £1 in May to support education projects.

Support them by clicking their names above or follow their challenge from May 7 on twitter @jollyjudith  and @StephenTwigg.  You can also follow Think Global CEO Tom’s progress on his Blog and on twitter.

For five days in May thousands of people cut their spending on food and drink with the aim of raising awareness of the 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live on £1 a day for everything, every day.

Think Global supports the campaign because research shows that the more people there are who understand the impact that their decisions have on poverty and sustainability, the more people there are who make good decisions. Tackling poverty, injustice and sustainability can only happen when more of us make good decisions, big and small. Being conscious of the ethics of shopping, fundraising for a cause, learning more or writing to those in power are all daily choices shaping the wellbeing of our planet and its people. Good decisions start with learning about the world and how we can make a difference.

Think Global helps 1.5 million children to learn about poverty and sustainability at school each year by helping them to understand and shape the world they will inherit.  Supporting teachers is at the heart of this work. Programmes like the Global Dimension cost just 3 pence per child reached in the classroom.

This year we are excited to be designing a schools-focused resource around the campaign in time for World Food Day.

Anyone can sign up to raise funds or awareness. To find out more or to take part you sign up here.

New Vacancies

We are recruiting for five new posts to help more people, particularly children in schools, to learn about the global challenges we face and how they can make a difference. And, crucially, to help us develop new income streams to expand our work:

In addition the five staff posts we are also recruiting for a new Trustee with schools based experience.

Think Global is the hub for a network of 5,000 teachers and other educators, and over 100 organisations, working to educate and engage the UK public in poverty reduction, sustainable development and other global challenges. Much of our work is focused on young people.

The successful candidates will build on the organisation’s success and continue our growth in a changing context. They will develop new projects, funding streams and alliances.

We are looking for strategic and entrepreneurial candidates who are able to build strong relationships and welcome the challenge of change.
